American Pharoah conquers Belmont Park, wins Triple Crown

Saturday, June 6th, 2015. - It was an incredibly longtime in waiting, but at last, we have another Triple Crown champion. His name is American Pharaoh and he is truly a super horse.

All my life I've heard stories about great horses, one's like Secretariat, Affirmed and other great Triple Crown winners of the past.

But to me they were like stories about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and winning the lottery. They are great stories, yet they just weren't quite right real for me.

That is until I saw a once-in-a-lifetime horse who runs like the wind. He overpowered his rivals at 3 different racetracks. 1st at Churchill Downs in the Kentucky Derby, he looked good doing it as many others have.

For the Preakness, he caught a rain affected track, which could have derailed lesser. That just seemed to make American Pharaoh run faster.

When the gates opened at Belmont yesterday, I was hopeful like many times before. I had seen other horses like Silver Charm, Funny Cide and California Chrome who had legitimate chances to win the Triple Crown. But for whatever reason they were not American Pharoah.

They did not possess the heart of this horse, the stamina, nor the will to win. Many tried hard and were gallant in defeat.

However, American Pharaoh now stands in a class of his own, winning the Triple Crown with devastating ease. He now joins the ranks of great champions that have come before him. Future champions will be judged against his performances.

Congratulations to a well deserving champion. American Pharoah certainly did America proud yesterday, becoming the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years. By Kerry Zangara
