Fourth Irish Champion Hurdle Win For Fly
January 27, 2014 -
Hurricane Fly picked up his fourth consecutive career Irish Champion Hurdle
yesterday at Leopardstown and, in the process, extended his record of Grade
One victories to 19.
The defending champion had to hold off the challenge of Our Conor who
finished just over a length behind the 10-year old.
It is the hurdlers’ third success of the season and likely to be his last
outing before the Champion Hurdle in March.
He opened his account for the campaign in November in the Morgiana Hurdle
before landing the Ryanair Hurdle at Leopardstown.
Hurricane Fly has visited the Festival at Prestbury Park on three occasions,
scoring in 2011 and 2013. He is now the
5/2 clear ante-post favourite
with the bet365 racing betting.
The New One has remained solid at 10/3 in the Champion Hurdle betting
despite not running this weekend. He is not expected to appear before the
premier hurdle race in March.
Connections of My Tent or Yours, who beat Nigel Twiston-Davies running at
Kempton on Boxing, have stated their horse is going to have another outing
over the next few weeks. He is available at 9/2 with bet365.
The seven-year old has done nothing wrong so far this season with wins
coming in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle and Christmas Hurdle.
My Tent or Yours had to settle for second at the Festival in 2013 as he
finished behind Champagne Fever in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle when
going off the 15/8 favourite
in the racing live betting.
Punters have backed Our Conor into 6/1 following his respectable second when
chasing home Hurricane Fly at Leopardstown on Sunday.
Last year’s Triumph Hurdle winner bounced back from a disappointing run in
the Ryanair Hurdle.
The five-year old was one of the most impressive winners at Cheltenham last
March as his margin of victory was 15-lengths when scoring for the Irish
team. |
